With the new major version Chrome 132, Google eliminates several browser vulnerabilities and Google Lens gets more functions on the desktop.
Google has released the new Chrome versions Chrome 132.0.6834.83/84 for Windows and macOS and 132.0.6834.83 for Linux. Installing these updates fixes 16 security vulnerabilities in the browser that apparently have not yet been exploited for attacks. The manufacturers of other Chromium-based browsers will follow suit shortly.
The Chrome Release Blog lists 13 of the 16 security vulnerabilities that have been eliminated, which were discovered by external security researchers and reported to Google. Google classifies five of these vulnerabilities as high risk. As usual, Google has not commented further on the vulnerabilities discovered internally.
New in Chrome 132
On the What's new page in Chrome, Google is promoting the ability to pin frequently used features and shortcuts as buttons to the toolbar. You can also use Google Password Manager on Android and iOS to share passwords with family members (if you think that's a good idea). On the desktop, Google Lens lets you select any element on a website (like photos or videos) to start a Google search.
In the last update for Chrome 131, Google closed four vulnerabilities a week ago.
Chrome usually updates itself automatically when a new version is available. You can manually start the update check using the menu entry » Help » About Google Chrome. Google has also made Chrome 131.0.6778.200 available for Android. The Android version eliminates the same vulnerabilities as the desktop versions.
