Brave 1.97.57 Fixes Tor Windows and Moves to Chromium 155

A quick Brave update gets private Tor windows connecting again and refreshes the engine.

Privacy browsers live and die by the small stuff: a Tor window that will not connect or a sync toggle that does more than you expected. Brave 1.97.57 is a short update, but it touches exactly those details.

What changed under the hood

The most practical item is a repair for Tor windows that sometimes failed to reach the Tor network. If you open private windows with Tor to keep your browsing away from prying eyes, you know how frustrating a window that simply refuses to connect can be. That problem is addressed here.

Brave has also taken away the sync toggle for payment methods and other Brave Wallet information. If you were used to switching that option on or off, do not go hunting for it; it has been removed on purpose.

Fresh Chromium underneath

The engine moves up to Chromium 155.0.8059.80, which means Brave picks up the latest upstream security work from the Chrome side. Since browsers are the front door to everything you do online, running a current engine is the single most valuable thing an update can deliver.

Our verdict

Tor users should update right away, and everybody else should do so for the engine bump. Brave normally updates itself, so open the About page, let it fetch the new build and restart. Anyone who relied on syncing wallet details across machines should note that option is gone.
