MailStore Home 26.4 Smooths IMAP Hiccups and Rescues Garbled Thunderbird Profile Names
The free email-archiving tool gets a tidy autumn update that matters most if your mail lives on IMAP or in Thunderbird.
Years of email are a strange kind of treasure: you never read most of it, but the day you need one message from 2019, nothing else will do. MailStore Home is the free tool many people use to keep that history safe, and version 26.4 (build 26.4.0.24320) polishes the parts that tend to cause grumbles.
Fewer IMAP surprises
IMAP servers are famously inconsistent, and an archiver spends much of its life negotiating with them. This release improves how MailStore handles IMAP errors, which should mean fewer confusing failures when a provider has a bad moment during a long archiving run.
Thunderbird names, untangled
If you archive from Thunderbird, you may have seen profile names turn into gibberish. An encoding error caused exactly that during archiving, and it is corrected here, so your profiles should read as the names you gave them. Under the hood, third-party libraries have also been refreshed.
Our verdict
It is not a flashy release, and it is not meant to be. Anyone who archives over IMAP or from Thunderbird should update when convenient, since those are the workflows it touches. If your archive already runs without complaints, you can take this one at your leisure, ideally before the next big backup.
