Chromium-based Brave 1.21.73 and Vivaldi 3.6.2165.40 updates available

Chromium-based browsers follow up after the Chrome 89 release.

After Google released Chrome 89 a few days ago, now other Chromium-based browsers have followed with the release of according updates.

On March 2, Google released Chrome 89.0.4389.72. With this Chrome update Google eliminated a vulnerability that is already being used for attacks. Brave and Microsoft Edge are now up to date, while Vivaldi and Opera are still back using Chromium 88.

The vulnerability CVE-2021-21166 in the audio component was discovered by security researcher Alison Huffman from Microsoft's browser security team and reported to Google in early February. Google has received reports that exploit code for this vulnerability is in circulation. It is not clear whether there are actually already attacks in which the vulnerability is exploited.

Brave is now available with version 1.21.73 and is up to date with Chromium version 89.0.4389.72. Microsoft updated its Edge browser to version 89.0.774.45 on March 4.

Vivaldi 3.6.2165.40 is still based on Chromium 88.0.4324.186 and is not yet protected against the 48 security vulnerabilities which the Chromium 89 update fixed. Opera is also behind. The latest version 74.0.3911.203 from March 4 is still Chromium 88.0.4324.182 based.

All browsers have an integrated update function, which you can also initiate manually via the Help About... menu.
