Firefox 152.0.2 Release Fixes MP4 Playback
This Update Fixes MP4 Playback, Language Glitches, and Proton Drive Slowdowns.
Mozilla has released Firefox 152.0.2, the first weekly maintenance update in the 152 branch. The update is rolling out today via the browser's built-in update mechanism and addresses four bugs, none of which are security-related.
What's Fixed
MP4 video playback: A regression introduced in 152.0 could prevent certain MP4 files from playing back correctly. This is fixed in 152.0.2.
Proton Drive performance: Sites that perform large numbers of simultaneous encryption and decryption operations, Proton Drive being the main example, could experience a noticeable slowdown. The underlying performance regression has been resolved.
Settings heading labels: In some non-English locales, certain headings inside the Settings panel were displaying raw placeholder strings instead of the correctly translated text. Users who noticed blank or garbled labels in their native language should see this corrected after updating.
New tab language mismatch: After switching Firefox's display language, the new tab page content could remain in the old language until a restart. The new tab now reflects the active language immediately.
ESR Channels Unaffected
The Extended Support Release branches (140.12 ESR and 115.37.0 ESR) are not receiving updates alongside this release and remain on their current versions.
How to Update
Firefox updates automatically in the background. To update manually, open the menu → Help → About Firefox. The update will also be pushed through the browser's update channel later today.
