Thunderbird versions 147.0.1 and 140.7.1 ESR available
The updates fix security vulnerabilities.
A quick rundown of the latest Thunderbird update like it is a balance patch:
Thunderbird just shipped a hotfix for versions 147 and 140 ESR, leveling them up to 147.0.1 and 140.7.1 ESR:
- 140 ESR is basically frozen now - no extra goodies, just stability.
- 147.0.1, however, gets a bonus fix to stop a random crash bug from griefing your session.
What was the bug?
Thunderbird could straight-up crash during searches, even when you weren't actively searching.
What else is included?
Security vulnerabilities patched (important stuff, no nerfs here).
On the side quest front:
Firefox 147.0.1 also got its own security patches.
Thunderbird 148 (and Firefox 148) are still in development hell with ETA February 24, 2026, according to the release calendar.
