Update to Firefox 107 available

The update fixes a number of security vulnerabilities.

Mozilla has released the new browser version Firefox 107. The update fixes 19 security vulnerabilities. Firefox 107 for Android is also available.

The new version 107.0 mainly fixes vulnerabilities and a few bugs. Compared to Firefox 106, there are only a few minor innovations. These include new icons in the PDF viewer and the determination of a website's power consumption on more platforms than before.

The update to Firefox 107 fixes at least 19 vulnerabilities, none of which Mozilla has classified as critical, but about half as high risk. This includes multiple use-after-free vulnerabilities in various components. Attackers could use two vulnerabilities to switch the browser to full-screen mode without the user receiving a message – as intended.

Mozilla only lists vulnerabilities found internally in summary form, without specifying their number. According to Mozilla, one or the other of these memory flaws could potentially be exploited to inject and execute code. Attacks on Firefox vulnerabilities are currently not known.

That's new in Firefox 107

Firefox 107 has received new icons for the built-in PDF viewer. These now better match the design of the Firefox interface. Web developers can now also examine the power consumption of a website under Linux and macOS, as long as an Intel processor is plugged into the computer. So far, this was only possible under Windows 11 and on Macs with an Apple CPU (M1, M2).

If you have already installed Firefox, it is best to use the update function integrated in Firefox. This will automatically provide you with the update Firefox 107.0 as soon as it is available for your Firefox.

If Firefox does not update itself automatically, you can trigger the update manually with the menu item » Help » About Firefox.

Firefox 107 for Android is also available on Google Play. Here, too, there is now the so-called "Total Cookie Protection" to protect privacy, which has been available in the desktop versions for some time. The PDF export function, which would also provide an indirect printing option, has apparently not yet made it into the final browser version.
