Security update for Chromium-based browsers available
Google released a security update for Chrome 81 and Microsoft Edge, Opera, Vivaldi and Brave immediately followed.
David FischerWith the update to Chrome 81.0.4044.129 for Windows, macOS and Linux, Google closed two vulnerabilities in its browser. The Chrome Release Blog, lists two vulnerabilities that were discovered by a security researcher from the Chinese company Qihoo 360 and reported to Google.
The three most popuilar other browsers, which are also based on the open-source Chromium, quickly followed and also provided updates on April 29.
Microsoft has released an update to version 81.0.416.68 for the Edge browser (Chromium-based). The update fixes the same security vulnerability as the latest Chrome version. The new generation of Edge does not receive its updates via Windows Update, but like the other browsers via an integrated updater.
Opera reacted just as quick. The current version 68.0.3618.63 corresponds to the security level of Chrome version 81.0.4044.129.
This also applies to Vivaldi Browser, which is now available in version 3.0.1874.33. Vivaldi 3.0 is now also available for Android.
The Brave Browser, which is developed under the direction of the former Mozilla boss Brendan Eich, was also updated. Brave 1.8.86 also contains Chromium 81.0.4044.129 and also brings several other bug fixes and small improvements.
