Security update for Chrome 127 available

The update fixes three vulnerabilities with one classified as critical.

Google has released a security update for Chrome 127. The developers have eliminated three problematic vulnerabilities.

With the new Chrome versions 127.0.6533.88/89 for Windows and macOS and 127.0.6533.88 for Linux, Google has fixed three vulnerabilities in its browser, one of which is classified as critical. According to Google, none of the vulnerabilities have been exploited for attacks so far. Manufacturers of other Chromium-based browsers should follow suit quickly.

The Chrome Release Blog lists three security vulnerabilities that were discovered by external security researchers and reported to Google. Google classifies one of these vulnerabilities as critical and the other two as high risk. All three were reported between July 13 and 23, so they should also affect the previous version branch Chrome/Chromium 126.

Google released Chrome 127 just last week. Chrome usually updates itself automatically when a new version is available. You can manually start the update check using the menu entry » Help » About Google Chrome. Google has also released Chrome 127.0.6533.84 for Android and Chrome for iOS 127.0.6533.77. The Android version has the same vulnerabilities eliminated as the desktop versions.

Chromium-based browsers

The manufacturers of other Chromium-based browsers are now required to follow suit with updates as quickly as possible. So far, only Brave and Microsoft (Edge) have made the switch to Chromium 127.

Opera and Vivaldi are at the security level before the release of Chrome 127, so they are about two weeks behind. In the case of Vivaldi, this may be because the manufacturer has been skipping the odd Chromium generations (such as 127) for years and is making do with the Extended Stable Channel of the previous version (126) until the next major version (here 128).
