Firefox 77.0.1 available for download

Mozilla now already delivers Firefox 77.0.1 to all users just a few hours after the release of Firefox 77.

Firefox 77 has been available since yesterday. The update to the new browser version is also distributed via the built-in update function. Firefox 77 does not bring any notable innovations, except for notebook users. Firefox ESR is also available in the new version 68.9.0.

Mozilla now already delivers Firefox 77.0.1 to all users just a few hours after the release of Firefox 77. The Firefox 77.0.1 release notes explain that the automatic selection of DNS over HTTPs (DoH) is disabled. The function, on the other hand, should now be activated gradually in a controlled manner for all Firefox users. This is to prevent the providers from being overloaded. With DNS over HTTPs, the DNS is resolved via encrypted HTTPS connections.

In the Mozilla security report MFSA-2020-20, the browser manufacturer lists six security issues that have been discovered and reported by external researchers. Mozilla does not identify any of these vulnerabilities as critical. Mozilla classifies three vulnerabilities as at least a high risk. For example, a timing attack on DSA signatures could result in private key disclosure. An error in the responsible NSS program library leads to variable timing behavior and thus allows conclusions to be drawn about the private keys.

In addition, there is an unspecified number of internally discovered vulnerabilities. Mozilla classifies the gaps that affect both Firefox and Firefox ESR as a high risk - as well as the other vulnerabilities that were only discovered in Firefox 76.
