Chrome 127 available
The update closes the door on 24 security vulnerabilities.
David FischerGoogle has just rolled out Chrome version 127, squashing a bunch of vulnerabilities to keep your browsing safe and sound.
With Chrome 127.0.6533.72/73 now available for Windows and macOS, and 127.0.6533.72 for Linux, Google has patched up numerous security vulnerabilities. The good news? None of these vulnerabilities have been used in attacks so far. While Chrome 127 does not introduce any flashy new features, it is a big win for your security. Other browsers built on Chromium are expected to catch up soon.
The Chrome Releases blog highlights 16 out of the 24 vulnerabilities that were flagged by external security experts. Google has marked five of these as high risk, with three being use-after-free issues. So far, Google has handed out over $47,000 in rewards to these vigilant researchers.
Just last week, Google tackled ten high-risk vulnerabilities. Chrome usually updates itself, but you can give it a nudge by going to » Help » About Google Chrome (or » Settings » About Google Chrome). For mobile users, Chrome 127.0.6533.64 is available for Android and 127.0.6533.56 for iOS, addressing the same issues as the desktop versions.
Chromium-based browser users
Other browsers like Brave, Edge, Opera, and Vivaldi now need to follow up with their updates. None of them have switched to Chromium 127 yet, so they are still on the previous security level.
Stay tuned and keep your browsers updated for a safer online experience!
