The new Moment 2 update for Windows 11 is available. It is currently offered as an optional update. This means you have to go to Windows Update settings and click on Check for updates. Windows 11 version 22H2 is required. With the March 14 Patch Day, the Moment 2 update should get distributed automatically to users of Windows.

With the new update for Windows 11, Microsoft has given the operating system a number of new functions. Including AI chat, a screen recording tool and an updated Notepad tool.

The update, referred to by Microsoft as Moment 2, is available via Windows Update under the name 2023-02 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5022913). After the installation, Windows 11 does not get a new version number, only the build number changes. After calling winver, Windows 11 reports Version 22H2 (Build 22621.1344).

New Bing AI Chat

OpenAI's ChatGPT has sparked high interest in AI chat-powered search services. Microsoft reacted to this trend with OpenAI and then announced the integration of an AI chat in Bing and Edge in February 2023. With the February update for Windows 11, Bing KI-Chat is now available in Windows 11 and more specifically in the search input field in the taskbar.

However, to use Bing AI Chat, you must first join a waiting list here at Microsoft. Only when the new AI function of the Bing search has been activated for you can you also use it via the search input field in the Windows 11 taskbar. It took us almost 3 days before we could use Bing KI-Chat after entering the waiting list.

If the Bing AI Chat is available to you, you can simply formulate sentences in the taskbar, which will then be answered by the chat bot. via the Edge browser.

Snipping tool now creates screen recordings

As soon as the February 2023 update is installed on the Windows 11 machine, you will get a new version of the Snipping Tool in the Microsoft Store. This new version adds the ability to record video of what's happening on the screen. These videos can then be recorded on the computer in MP4 format.

Windows 11 helps save energy

Windows 11 is now getting a new Energy Recommendations feature under Settings > Performance > Energy Recommendations designed to help reduce your electricity bills. There are various recommendations in this area that should help to reduce the power consumption of the device used.

Notepad with tabs

Microsoft had already given a first glimpse of Notepad with tabs some time ago in the Windows Insider pre-releases. Now all Windows 11 users will get the updated Notepad application.

We could now criticize the fact that Microsoft has not given the popular Notepad application more innovations. But at least tabs are a useful addition for heavy Notepad users.

Remote Help returns

If you want to quickly and remotely help a friend or family member using their computer, then you should take a closer look at Quick Assist. This app is now included by default in Windows 11 and is therefore directly available.

You can ask your friend or relative to let you take control of their computer by giving them a code to confirm access. Conversely, you can let a friend or relative take control of your computer so they can diagnose a problem remotely. Of course, you have to make sure that both sides trust each other.

As long as the connection is active, one participant can control the other's computer. What is new is that the two parties can either share their screen or give up full control. There's also a new laser pointer that allows one user to highlight a control or button that the other can access.

More new features and improvements in Windows 11

More innovations include:

  • Widgets support for Facebook (Messenger) and Spotify

  • An AI in the start menu and file explorer that tries to predict which files the user will need for their next meeting. (Windows 11 Pro and use of an Azure domain required)

  • Windows Chat gets a new interface. Windows Chat itself has been integrated since the launch of Windows 11 and is ultimately the consumer variant of Microsoft Teams.
