Anyone who surfs the Internet with Chrome should update the browser for security reasons. In the current version, the developers have fixed a total of seven security vulnerabilities. According to Google, attackers are already exploiting a vulnerability.

About the vulnerabilities

In the according Chrome Releases blog, the gaps are classified with a high threat level. The currently exploited vulnerability (CVE-2023-6345) can be found in the open source 2D graphics library Skia.

Attackers can use a method that is not described in detail and trigger a memory error (integer overflow). If such an attack is successful, malicious code usually gets onto systems. This often leads to a complete compromise of computers. Attackers can also use the other vulnerabilities to create memory errors.

The developers fixed the vulnerabilities in Chrome edition 119.0.6045.199 for Linux, macOS and 119.0.6045.199/.200 for Windows. By default, current versions install automatically under Windows, for example. You can check which edition is installed in the three-dot menu to the right of the address bar under Help/About Google Chrome. This call also triggers a manual update.
