Firefox 80 and Tor Browser 9.5.4 updates available
The developers have fixed security vulnerabilities.
David FischerFirefox 80.0 is available and distributed via the built-in update function. Firefox 80.0 offers detail improvements for screen reader users. In addition, Firefox can now be set and used as the default PDF viewer.
A new blacklist for potentially harmful browser extensions is also included. And Mozilla replaces the term master password with the term main password.
In the Mozilla Security Report MFSA-2020-36 (for Firefox 80.0), the browser manufacturer lists eight security vulnerabilities that have been discovered. Mozilla does not identify any of these vulnerabilities as critical. Mozilla classifies two vulnerabilities as at least high risk. Three medium-rated vulnerabilities are vulnerabilities to attacks on cryptographic functions. In addition, there is an unspecified number of internally discovered security vulnerabilities.
Additionally, in Firefox ESR 78.2.0 and 68.12.0, the Mozilla developers have fixed three security vulnerabilities each. The Firefox ESR update will be followed by a new Thunderbird version with the same version number, in this case 78.2.0 and 68.12.0. The release of the integrated OpenPGP support (successor to EnigMail) promised for Thunderbird 78.2.0 has been postponed to version 78.2.1.
The updated Tor Browser 9.5.4 is based on Firefox ESR 68.12.0. It includes the latest NoScript version 11.0.38 and HTTPS Everywhere 08.13 2020.
