Edge 81 with Collections and Dolby Vision support

Microsoft released an Edge browser update to version 81.

The Chromium-based browser Edge received an update to version 81. The Edge browser has been available since January 15, 2020 and has been updated regularly since then. A number of new functions are included in Edge 81. The full version number is 81.0.416.53. The main innovation are Collections.

With the new Collections, which can be found in the Edge menu under the menu item with the same name, you can collect and organize websites on a topic or activity while surfing. Websites as well as pictures and notes can be added to a collection. The Collections view opens as a right sidebar. All existing collections are displayed and you can also add a new collection. You can send the content of a collection to friends and colleagues via Excel or Word.

Edge 81 also supports the playback of Dolby Vision content. You should have Windows 10 with build number 17134 installed, which corresponds to the status of the April 2018 update. You need video which offers Dolby Vision content, for example from Netflix. Find out more on how to receive content from Netflix in Dolby Vision quality here. You also need a monitor or screen with Dolby Vision support, an HDMI connection with HDCP 2.2 or higher and an internet connection with at least 25 megabit per second.

Edge 81 also includes other minor improvements and changes, for example an update of the 3D view tool in the Edge developer tools. In addition, duplicate entries are now recognized in the favorites manager and can be removed from the bookmark collection.

There are new functions when opening PDF documents in Edge and the Windows Speller spelling correction integrated in Windows is now also supported.

There are also new keyboard shortcuts that make it easier and faster to call up existing functions. With the key combination Ctrl+Shift+U Edge switches to Read aloud mode and reads the content of a website. And with F9, the currently displayed website is displayed in reading mode, which is called plastic reader in Edge.
