Chrome 129.0.6668.89/90 for Windows available

Google fixed five security vulnerabilities in its browser.

Google has released an additional security update for Chrome. The software developers are fixing several security vulnerabilities in the browser.

Google has released the new Chrome versions 129.0.6668.89/90 for Windows and macOS and 129.0.6668.89 for Linux. This means that Google has closed five security vulnerabilities in its browser, none of which have apparently been exploited for attacks so far. Manufacturers of other Chromium-based browsers should follow suit quickly.

The Chrome Releases Blog lists three of the four security holes that have been fixed, which were discovered by external security researchers and reported to Google. Google classifies these three vulnerabilities as high risk. As always, Google does not provide any information about the vulnerability found internally.

The previous week, Google released a first security update for Chrome 129, fixing five security holes. Chrome usually updates itself automatically when a new version is available. You can manually start the update check using the menu entry » Help » About Google Chrome. Google has also made Chrome 129.0.6668.81 available for Android. It fixes the same vulnerabilities as the desktop versions.

Chromium-based browsers

The manufacturers of other Chromium-based browsers are now required to follow suit with updates as quickly as possible. Brave and Microsoft (Edge) have made the switch to Chromium 129. They are at the same security level as last week. As usual, Vivaldi uses the Extended Stable Channel of Chromium version 128. This enabled the developers to react very quickly and already have a secured version on offer with Vivaldi 6.9.3447.51.

Opera 114 with Chromium 128 moved to the stable channel last week. Opera 114.0.5282.21 now contains Chromium 128.0.6613.162. This means that a few more gaps have been closed, but it is not yet on par with the other browser brands.

Brave also secured its browser with an update already. Unlike Vivaldi, Brave uses the latest Chromium generation 129.
