A maintenance update to version 7.22 of WinRAR is now available. This release includes several fixes and refinements, including the reversion of one feature to its 7.20 behavior. See the highlights below.
WinRAR now correctly handles archives with incorrect file extensions that contain another archive stored without compression. For example, if a file named host.rar containing nested.zip is renamed to host.zip, previous versions would display the contents of nested.zip. In this version, WinRAR correctly displays the contents of host.zip.
Sorting behavior has also been improved: clicking the Size or Time columns in the file list now toggles reverse sorting, similar to Windows File Explorer. This means the largest or newest files are displayed at the top.
Fixes and changes
The -s=e switch now performs case-insensitive comparisons of file extensions on Windows. Unlike previous versions, overall statistics are no longer reset when extensions differ only by letter case.
If a self-extracting archive attempts to extract files into a folder requiring administrator privileges and the user cancels the elevation prompt, the process now terminates silently instead of showing a folder access error.
Fixed an issue in WinRAR 7.20 where ZIP archives containing file comment fields could not be extracted.
Corrected the -tl switch so it properly sets the most recent timestamp when used with the RAR 7.2 ch command.
Fixed a bug where the extract command did not automatically replace reserved device names (such as aux) when extracting archives.
Resolved an issue where exporting WinRAR settings could overwrite a folder shortcut if it was double-clicked in the “Save WinRAR Settings As” dialog, instead of opening the target folder.
Reverted solid archive deletion behavior to its pre-7.20 state to finalize fixes introduced in version 7.21 and prevent potential checksum errors.
