WinDirStat, the long-running open-source disk usage analyzer, is out with version 2.7.0.

What's New

WinDirStat continues to build on its modernized 2.x codebase (a from-the-ground-up C++/CMake rewrite of the original 2003 classic). Recent releases in this line have added:

  • Dark mode support that matches Windows' system theme, including the treemap background and all UI panels
  • Search functionality within scan results, making it faster to locate specific large files or folders
  • Removal of the legacy OLE dependency, allowing WinDirStat to run on Server Core installations
  • Various performance and memory usage improvements for scanning large drives
  • An installer option to add WinDirStat to the system PATH for command-line use

As with every release, the tool remains completely free with no ads, no upsells, no telemetry.

Why It Matters

Disk space visualizers are a staple utility for anyone managing storage on an aging SSD or a drive cluttered with duplicate downloads. WinDirStat's treemap view makes it trivial to spot the folders eating up your space at a glance.
