Vivaldi 8.2.4133.84 Brings Chromium 155 Security Fixes to the Feature-Packed Browser
The ninth minor update for Vivaldi 8.2 backports the Chromium 155 security fixes.
Vivaldi Technologies has published the ninth minor update for Vivaldi 8.2, bringing the desktop browser to build 8.2.4133.84. The release is a security update that backports the latest Chromium fixes.
What's New in Vivaldi 8.2.4133.84
- Chromium 152.0.7977.160 ESR: Vivaldi builds on Chromium's Extended Stable branch. This update moves to 152.0.7977.160 ESR, which includes the security fixes from Chromium 155.0.8059.39/40 – the same release in which Google fixed 247 vulnerabilities, four of them critical.
There are no new features or interface changes in this update, which makes it a quick, low-risk install.
Why Vivaldi Uses Chromium ESR
Instead of jumping to every new Chromium major version, Vivaldi tracks the Extended Stable (ESR) branch and backports security patches from current releases. This gives the team more time to keep its large set of built-in features stable – the tab stacks and tiling, built-in mail, calendar and feed reader, notes, ad and tracker blocker, and deep customization options – while still delivering current security fixes.
A Busy Update Cycle
This is already the ninth minor update for Vivaldi 8.2, and several earlier ones also delivered security fixes, including patches for actively exploited V8 vulnerabilities. Keeping Vivaldi up to date is the best way to stay protected.
How to Update
Vivaldi checks for updates automatically. To check manually on Windows, open the Vivaldi menu > Help > Check for Updates.
