Mozilla rolls out monthly updates for Thunderbird. One is Thunderbird 144.0 and the other is Thunderbird 140.4.0 ESR. Both versions include security fixes and changes. For example, the Flatpak runtime environment in both versions has been updated to Freedesktop SDK 24.08.

Fixes in Thunderbird 144.0

  • Copying text from some error messages was not possible.
  • Accessing the Fastmail CalDAV app password failed due to a forced OAuth regression.
  • The Delete key did not prevent attachments from being deleted in OpenPGP messages.
  • Newly created folders were missing from "Recently Used" when a message was moved.
  • The sender's avatar was displayed incorrectly for "Name" via the address sender format.
  • When sorting by thread, only threads with unread top messages were moved to the top.
  • Messages marked as read after an NNTP error could no longer be retrieved from the server.
  • The "Location" column in the Inbox was not translated in the French language version.
  • When creating digitally signed OpenPGP emails, not all headers were signed.
  • Users could not read emails signed with OpenPGP v6 and PQC keys.
  • Testing a configured personal S/MIME certificate for a subidentity did not work.
  • Testing an S/MIME certificate did not work for an old, invalid certificate.
  • Changing the identity in the Compose window resulted in modified drafts not being saved.
  • Shift-clicking on "Compose Message To" in the "mailto" link did not open in plain text.
  • The image preview in the "Insert Image" dialog failed with a CSP error for web resources.
  • Thunderbird could crash in various scenarios.
  • The "Copy Message To" action in a newsgroup filter did not work.
  • Thunderbird could not import a profile located at the top level of a ZIP file.
  • Thunderbird did not clearly fail when importing profiles from a corrupted source.
  • There was no way to distinguish between Thunderbird Release and ESR in the Windows Registry.
  • When confirming to delete/remove multiple attachments, only the first attachment was displayed.
  • Thunderbird would crash when automatically checking multiple accounts for new messages.
  • The "Reply All" button was missing when using a Microsoft Exchange account.
  • Sending emails via servers with self-signed certificates did not work.
  • Task reminders could fail for tasks with no end date or with postponed due dates.
  • It was not possible to copy an event using drag and drop in the multi-week or monthly view.
  • Several exceptions were displayed when detecting a calendar with a certificate error.
