Thunderbird 143.0 and 140.3.0 ESR released

The updates come with with security fixes and other improvements.

The monthly rollout of Mozilla's Thunderbird email client update is coming. Today, it's Thunderbird (Eclipse) 143.0 and Thunderbird 140.3.0 ESR. Both versions include security fixes and common bug fixes summarized below.

New or fixed in Thunderbird 140.3.0 ESR

  • Right-clicking on "List ID" -> "Unsubscribe" resulted in a double-encoded draft subject.
  • Thunderbird could crash on startup.
  • Thunderbird could crash when importing emails.
  • Opening the website header link in the RSS feed resulted in incorrect re-encoding of the URL parameters.

New or fixed in Thunderbird 143.0

  • Websites with invalid certificates were displayed as empty.
  • Users could no longer send emails via smtp-relay.gmail.com.
  • When switching to the new Drafts folder and back, the folder was not restored correctly.
  • There was no option to create a new address book under "File" -> "New."
  • Some folders displayed the number of new emails before they were received.
  • The menu bar was hidden after updating from 128esr to 140esr.
  • Menu bar -> View contained duplicate keyboard shortcuts.
  • No warning was logged if the mail.openpgp.alias_rules_file file was missing.
  • Cmd+Shift+F no longer invoked "Find Messages" on macOS.
  • Selecting with the arrow keys in the global search bar skipped every other result.
  • Dragging and dropping a non-selected contact resulted in an incorrect or no email address being inserted.
  • Thunderbird could crash on startup.
  • Thunderbird could crash when importing emails.
  • Adding an account could fail, causing the user interface to freeze. Clicking a new message notification on Windows did not bring Thunderbird to the foreground.
  • Deleting or detaching attachments did not work on some IMAP servers. Saving a new draft retained the overwritten version.
  • The language field in Settings was empty after restarting in debug mode.
