Microsoft's built-in Registry Editor has barely changed in decades. Registry Finder, a free tool that replaces it entirely, just shipped version 2.62, bringing tabbed search results, offline hive editing, and the ability to run as Local System (above Administrator level).
What's new in this release
- New: Run as Local System: Unlocks registry keys that are off-limits even to Administrator accounts, useful for deep diagnostics and IT work.
- Dark mode fixed throughout: The installer and the address-bar autocomplete dropdown now correctly follow your system light/dark preference.
- Cleaner search results: Default values now show as "(Default)" instead of a confusing blank. A regex help link is also added to the search dialog.
- Better offline hive handling: Corrupted keys in offline registry files are no longer silently skipped. They load and are flagged as damaged.
- Bug fixes: Restarting as Administrator no longer resets your preferences. The Favourites menu now properly disables "Remove" when an item isn't saved there.
Registry Finder is free and portable, runs on Windows 10 and 11, and existing users can update via Help → Check for Updates.
