REAPER 7.80 Released

Thisd update offer a wide grab-bag of workflow refinements rather than one headline feature.

Cockos has shipped REAPER 7.80, the latest update to its lightweight but famously deep digital audio workstation. As usual for a REAPER point release, it's a wide grab-bag of workflow refinements rather than one headline feature — but there's plenty here for anyone routing MIDI, CLAP plugins, or automation through their sessions.

What's new

  • CLAP plugin support deepens — REAPER now supports CLAP_EVENT_IS_LIVE, adds hovered-parameter specifications, and lets you link a MIDI program change directly to a factory preset.
  • JSFX loudness meters — new actions let you reset JSFX loudness meters without digging through menus.
  • Color actions — dedicated actions for setting track or item/take colors, useful for anyone scripting session organization.
  • Docks polish — rearranging docked windows now shows a preview indicator, and drag/drop behavior has been made more consistent.
  • Automation feedback — menus and actions now reflect current automation state more clearly.
  • API fix — resolved an issue affecting the PlayTime toolbar addition.

Why it matters

REAPER's release cadence is built on exactly this kind of incremental refinement, and 7.80 is no exception, the CLAP plugin work in particular keeps REAPER current as more developers adopt the newer plugin format alongside VST.

REAPER 7.80 is available now for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Check REAPER on UpdateStar to see if you're due for the update, or grab it directly from reaper.fm.
