Proton VPN 5.1.4 (beta) for Windows With New "Proton Protocols"
The way Proton VPN connects to its servers has been rebuilt from the ground up.
Proton VPN has released version 5.1.4 beta for Windows, and this is one of the more significant under-the-hood updates the app has seen in a while. The headline feature is Proton Protocols, a completely rebuilt VPN connection architecture designed to be faster, more stable, and harder to block.
What's New in Proton VPN 5.1.4 beta
Proton Protocols - A New VPN Architecture The way Proton VPN connects to its servers has been rebuilt from the ground up. The new Proton Protocols system is designed for greater stability and censorship resistance, making it a meaningful upgrade for users in regions where VPN traffic is frequently throttled or blocked.
Faster Server Connections Server switching and initial connections are noticeably quicker thanks to the new architecture. Less waiting, more browsing.
Automatic Network Conflict Detection If another app on your PC is interfering with your VPN connection, which can happen with certain antivirus tools, firewalls, or network utilities. Proton VPN now detects the conflict automatically and alerts you, instead of silently failing.
Connection Feedback A new thumbs up / thumbs down prompt lets you rate your connection quality after a session. Proton uses this data to improve server routing and performance over time.
DNS Crash Fix A fix is included for a DNS-related crash that some users were experiencing.
Download
Proton VPN is free to download with a free tier available. The full feature set (including the fastest servers and advanced protocols) requires a paid Proton VPN plan.
