Opera has shipped version 133.0.5932.20, and it's a notable one from a security standpoint. The browser is now the first major one to natively defend against clipboard-based ClickFix attacks.
What's New
Paste Protect ships to everyone. This release delivers the first full rollout of Paste Protect, a built-in feature that watches your clipboard in real time for potentially malicious commands, whether you copied them yourself or a website silently placed them there.
How it actually works. If Paste Protect detects something suspicious, it blocks the copy action immediately, throws up a warning explaining what happened, and flags a red icon in the address bar. You can see the first 120 characters of whatever got blocked, and developers working with trusted sources can override the block or mark specific sites as safe.
Why this matters. The feature specifically targets ClickFix, a social-engineering technique where attackers trick victims into copying dangerous code onto their clipboard and pasting it into a command-line window (Run dialog, PowerShell, Terminal) to execute it.
On by default. Paste Protect is enabled out of the box, though it can be toggled off in Opera's settings if needed.
Why It Matters
Most clipboard-hijacking defenses today rely on the user recognizing something's wrong before pasting into a terminal. Opera baking this protection directly into the browser removes a step where a lot of people get fooled, particularly with fake CAPTCHA pages and "verify you're human" prompts that are now common ClickFix bait.
