Notepad++ 8.9.7 Closes Five Security Holes, Fixes a Handful of Bugs
The free text editor patches three named CVEs plus two unlisted vulnerabilities, alongside fixes for workspace crashes and a broken Paste command.
The team behind Notepad++ has released version 8.9.7, a security-focused update that closes five vulnerabilities and fixes a range of everyday annoyances reported by users.
Security Fixes
The update patches three tracked vulnerabilities (CVE-2026-52886, CVE-2026-54758, and CVE-2026-57233) along with two additional security issues that were not assigned CVE identifiers. Users running any earlier 8.9.x build are encouraged to update.
Other Fixes and Improvements
Beyond the security patches, 8.9.7 includes a solid list of bug fixes:
- "Find in Files" stopped responding. This has been fixed.
- Opening relative file paths from Explorer failed. Resolved.
- Files vanishing or duplicating in "Open Folder as Workspace." Fixed.
- Crash caused by symbolic links in a workspace root folder. Fixed.
- Expand/collapse state in "Open Folder as Workspace" now persists across sessions instead of resetting.
- Incremental search performance improved with a new "Count" option.
- The Paste command was incorrectly greyed out in some cases; this has been corrected.
- A new "Print FormFeed as Page Break" option has been added.
- Several bundled modules have been updated.
