Notepad++ 8.9.6 available
The update fixes a security vulnerability in the installer among other things.
Just a few days after the last update for the Notepad++ editor another update is available with Notepad++ 8.9.6. This release addresses a security vulnerability (CVE-2026-46710) within the installer that was present in versions 8.9.4 and 8.9.5.
Additional corrections
Additional corrections were also implemented with this update, and another issue present in the previous version was resolved.
The most important update addresses a security vulnerability in the installer, tracked as CVE-2026-46710.
The release also fixes multiple regressions in the x86 installer, including cases where Notepad++ did not appear correctly in the Windows Uninstall a program list and where context-menu integration was not installed or removed properly.
Another installer-related fix restores the correct UAC prompt name, so Windows now shows Notepad++ instead of Notepad++ installer.
On the editor side, the update corrects problems with saving files, including incorrect behavior when saving modified read-only files and a regression where saving a UDL XML file could remove its XML declaration.
