What's New in Edge 149
The Edge 149 update series introduced several notable changes that affect everyday users:
Refreshed Look and Feel Microsoft has aligned Edge's visual design with its broader AI surfaces, including Copilot and Bing. Expect subtle changes to spacing, corner rounding, fonts, and default colours across the browser interface.
Collections Feature Removed Microsoft has permanently removed the Collections sidebar feature. If you were using Collections to save and organise web pages, now is the time to export your saved content or move pages to Favourites before updating.
Simplified Password Security The option to set a custom primary password in Edge Settings has been removed. Users who had a custom primary password set up will be automatically migrated to device-level authentication (Windows Hello / device PIN), which Microsoft considers more secure.
QR Code Bug Fixed A bug that prevented the built-in QR code generator from working correctly has been resolved in this release.
Copilot Address Bar Suggestions A new policy (CopilotAddressBarSuggestionsEnabled) has been introduced for managed environments, giving IT admins control over Copilot-powered suggestions in the address bar.
Should You Update?
Yes. Edge updates silently in the background for most users, but you can manually trigger the update via Settings → Help and Feedback → About Microsoft Edge. The update is free and available to all Windows 10 and Windows 11 users.
