Malwarebytes for Windows 5.7.0 Brings Free VPN Access to Everyone

Malwarebytes has released version 5.7.0 for Windows and the headline feature is one that changes the value proposition of the free tier significantly: built-in VPN access with no upgrade required.

What's New in Malwarebytes for Windows 5.7.0

Privacy VPN for Free and Standard users. Previously a premium-only add-on, Malwarebytes Privacy VPN is now available to users on Free and Standard subscriptions, including 10GB of secure browsing data every 30 days at no extra cost. Malwarebytes says the rollout is happening gradually, so if you don't see the option in your app yet, it should appear in the coming days as the feature reaches your account.

Why it matters: for casual users who just want occasional protection on public Wi-Fi — coffee shops, airports, hotels — this removes the biggest reason to look at a separate free VPN app. 10GB a month won't cover heavy streaming, but it's a meaningful amount for browsing, email, and light use.

Under the hood. As with most point releases, 5.7.0 also includes the usual round of stability and reliability fixes rolled up from the beta channel that preceded it, though Malwarebytes hasn't published an exhaustive line-item changelog for this release beyond the VPN rollout.
