Google Chrome 153 Released

The New Two-Week Update Cycle Begins With a Zero-Day Fix.

Google has shipped Chrome 153 to the stable channel, marking the first release under the browser's new two-week update cadence, a shift away from the old four-week major-version cycle that Chrome has used for over a decade. Firefox and Edge are making the same move around the same time, so expect faster, smaller updates from all three major browsers going forward.

What's New

  • 230 security fixes in total, including 41 rated high-severity.
  • Five critical-severity vulnerabilities patched, four of them in WebGL (two use-after-free bugs, an out-of-bounds write, and a buffer overflow) plus one use-after-free in Cast.
  • Zero-day patched — CVE-2026-87491, a V8 JavaScript/WebAssembly engine flaw that Google confirms is already being exploited in the wild. This is the seventh zero-day fixed in Chrome this year.
  • Over 180 additional medium- and low-severity fixes covering information leaks, UI misrepresentation issues, and more.

Given the active exploitation of the V8 bug, this is a good one to install as soon as possible rather than waiting for Chrome's background auto-update.
