Firefox versions 151, 140.11 ESR and 115.36.0 ESR available
The updates includes security fixes and improvements.
Mozilla's monthly update for Firefox 151, 140.11 ESR, and 115.36.0 ESR has been completed. Once again, several security vulnerabilities have been fixed.
The update will be distributed via the browser's update function. As usual, this will likely take place in the afternoon. But first, here are the release notes.
The release notes are available here, along with details regarding the security fixes. In total, up to 31 security vulnerabilities have been closed. Six of these were rated as High severity.
What's new
Firefox is introducing several updates across New Tab, Private Browsing, privacy protection, and VPN controls.
The Firefox Home/New Tab page has a refreshed design that supports upcoming features such as widgets and improved shortcuts, expected between versions 151 and 152. It also includes new wallpapers, accessible through the pencil icon in the lower-right corner.
Private Browsing now offers an End Private Session button, shown as a fire icon next to the URL bar. This lets users clear all data from the current private session without closing the entire window. After confirmation, Firefox wipes the session data and starts a fresh Private Browsing session.
Firefox is also strengthening fingerprinting protection in Standard Enhanced Tracking Protection. By reducing the amount of device and browser information shared with websites, it makes cross-site tracking harder and lowers the number of uniquely identifiable users by about 14% on average, and about 49% on macOS.
Finally, Firefox’s built-in VPN now allows users to choose their browsing location. They can select from available countries or use the Recommended option to automatically connect to the best location for their network.
