Firefox 148.0 available

The monthly update also brings 140.8 ESR and the last update as 115.33.0 ESR for Windows 7/8.1.

The monthly update for Firefox is available. The update includes Firefox versions 148.0 and 140.8 ESR (Extended Support Release). For Windows 7 and 8.1, as well as macOS 10.12-10.14, this is the last official update, version 115.33.0 ESR.

After this update, the only options are to use a different browser or a fork, if users do not switch operating systems. But this version will keep you safe until the end of March. So users can consider your next steps. The update is available for download via the browser's update function.

Firefox versions 140.8 ESR and 115.33.0 ESR contain security fixes. Firefox version 148.0 has a longer list of changes and includes new features.

New features in Firefox 148

  • An "AI Controls" section has been added to Settings to manage AI-powered features.

  • Firefox now offers improved support for screen readers accessing mathematical formulas embedded in PDF files.

  • Remote improvements are now decoupled from telemetry requests in Firefox settings. You can now enable receiving changes to the browser remotely, even if you have disabled sharing telemetry data or participating in our experimental studies.

  • Firefox Backup is now available on Windows 10 for users who also use the "Clear history when Firefox quits" feature. Backups do not include data that should be deleted when Firefox quits.

  • New tab background images now appear on both new container tabs and new default tabs.
