EverythingToolbar 3.0 Brings a Real Search Box to the Windows 11 Taskbar

Until now, Windows 11 users only got a magnifying-glass icon in the taskbar. Version 3.0 finally brings back a proper, visible search box — just like on Windows 10.

EverythingToolbar, the free utility that plugs voidtools' Everything search engine directly into your Windows taskbar, has reached version 3.0.0.

What's New

  • Real search field on Windows 11: Until now, Windows 11 users only got a magnifying-glass icon in the taskbar. Version 3.0 finally brings back a proper, visible search box just like on Windows 10.
  • Everything 1.5 SDK support: Added support for the newer SDK, bringing noticeably faster performance when listing search results.
  • Smarter startup behavior: EverythingToolbar now waits for Everything to become available instead of showing no results if Everything hasn't finished launching yet.

  • Animation and UI polish: The "disable animations" setting now applies to all remaining animations, and tooltips are now styled to match the rest of the interface.
  • Context menu fix: "Run as administrator" no longer always shows up in the results context menu when it shouldn't.
  • Update banner fix: Fixed a bug where the update notification banner wasn't shown for certain version increments.
  • Custom actions improvements: The first matching rule now takes priority, and valid regular expressions are no longer incorrectly rejected.
  • Taskbar pin icon fix: The pin icon no longer gets stuck showing the wrong state after re-pinning.
  • Non-blocking search: Search queries no longer block the UI thread.
  • Settings crash fix: Fixed a crash in Settings when the autostart registry entry couldn't be read or written.
  • Filter loading fix: Fixed an issue where Everything's filters wouldn't load if the filter file had duplicate or missing columns.
  • General performance improvements across the results list, icon loading, and window animations.

How to Use It

  1. Download and run Everything (not the Lite version).
  2. Install and start EverythingToolbar.
  3. Pin the EverythingToolbar icon to your taskbar.
  4. Optionally, turn off the built-in Windows search icon under Settings → Personalization → Taskbar.
  5. Launch searches with a click or the default Win + Alt + S shortcut (customizable).

Both Everything and EverythingToolbar need to be set to run at startup for this to work seamlessly.
