Advanced Renamer 4.26: Saved Method Lists Become Batch Projects, Tags Get Reorganized

Your saved method lists are now **batch projects** that carry their own settings.

Advanced Renamer 4.26 was released. It is the third monthly update in a row for the long-running Windows batch renaming tool, and the biggest change is organizational: your saved method lists are now batch projects that carry their own settings.

What's new in 4.26

  • Batch projects. Saved method lists are now batch projects, with project-specific settings, making it easier to keep separate, repeatable renaming jobs (a photo import, a music library cleanup, a document archive) instead of juggling one shared setup.
  • Reorganized tags. Tags are now grouped into Filename, Number, Data and File info categories, which should make the long list of tags easier to scan.
  • Named counters, project tags and custom filename validation. These are available to licensed users only.
  • Copy and paste method configuration between methods of the same type, saving time when you build similar rules.
  • Smarter conditions. Conditions now support multiple values and metadata field matching, so you can target files based on, for example, an EXIF or audio tag value.

Recent context

The two previous releases show where the app has been heading:

  • 4.25 (September 1, 2026): a thumbnail grid mode for the file list, the ability to mark, unmark or remove items based on conditions, a new <RWord> tag for extracting words from the end of a string, and a right-click menu to move the quick panel.
  • 4.24 (August 4, 2026): native PDF text extraction in the Script method and the ability to put individual UI panels on the right side or collapse them.

About the program

Advanced Renamer offers 13 renaming methods for files and folders: add, remove, replace, change case, build a name from known file information, and more. It shows a real-time preview of the new names and supports undo. It reads tag data from MP3/ID3, EXIF images, GPS and video tags, can change timestamps and attributes, rename, copy or move in batch, and can be extended with JavaScript. A portable version (under 4 MB) is available alongside the installer (about 14 MB). It runs on Windows 7 through 11 and is also available for macOS.

Licensing

The software is free for personal use. Frequent users are asked to buy a license (listed around $20), and 4.26's named counters, project tags and filename validation features are licensed-only.
