Igor Pavlov has announced the release of 7-Zip version 26.01. This update brings notable improvements, especially for Linux users. The Linux version now supports Huge Pages (2 MB pages), resulting in up to a 10% increase in compression speed when using formats like 7z, xz, LZMA, and LZMA2.
Additional changes and optimizations
A new switch, -spo[d|c|r], has been introduced to control how the output directory path is generated during extraction. This path is based on the directory specified with the -o{dir_path} option and the archive’s name:
-spod: On Linux/Posix/macOS, -o{dir_path} is used as the exact output directory. Any asterisk (*) in the path is left unchanged. -spoc: The output path is formed by appending the archive name to the path defined in -o{dir_path}. -spor: The default behavior - any asterisk in -o{dir_path} is replaced with the archive name.
The release also includes several bug fixes.
