Paint.NET 5.1.3 released

This update is a maintenance release with performance improvements, bug fixes, and small changes.

A new update is available for Paint.NET. This update to version 5.1.3 is a maintenance update. A number of bugs have been corrected and improvements have been integrated. But there are also a few new features that have been incorporated.

The update includes the following changes and fixes according to the release notes:

  • New: Added a shortcut for Image -> Rotate 90° counterclockwise.
  • New: Added shortcuts for Inches, Centimeters and Pixels options in the View menu.
  • New: IEffectConfigForm.Close() is now public and can be used by plugins hosting other effects via IEffectsService2.
  • New: Plugins can now implement custom DirectWrite IInlineObjects.
  • New: HlslUnaryFunctionEffect (for GPU effect plugin developers) now has FrexpMantissaPortion, FrexpExponentPortion, ModfIntegerPortion and ModfFractionalPortion. These provide access to the Frexp and Modf HLSL instructions.
  • Fix: Some PNG metadata of text sections is now preserved (author, comment, copyright and description).
  • Fixed some issues with snapping tool windows when multiple monitors with different scale levels were present. Sometimes snapping boundaries were calculated in the wrong coordinate space, causing snapping to occur in seemingly arbitrary (and weird) places.
  • Improved framerate, framerate pace, and canvas responsiveness when using CPU or GPU intensive tools like Move Selected Pixels.
  • Fixed an off-by-1 bug in the Median Blur effect that was causing incorrect results, especially when Radius=1
  • Fixed a crash in the Level Adjustment UI due to improper value limiting.
  • Fixed the Red Eye Removal effect so that it no longer crashes when the canvas zoom level does not show the entire image.
  • Fixed the Red Eye Removal effect so that it now correctly attaches to the active selection.
  • Fix: The installer no longer silently aborts on Windows 10 prior to 21H2. It now correctly displays an error message stating that Windows 10 21H2 is required and the exit code is ERROR_OLD_WIN_VERSION.
