5 reasons why you should use a VPN service
A VPN offers more than just security and anonymous surfing. We show you the reasons reasons why a VPN service is worth it
David FischerA VPN offers more than just security and anonymous surfing. Here are 5 reasons why a VPN service is worth it.
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) disguises the user's private IP address and routes traffic through a selected server. This allows you to browse the Internet anonymously and securely. The popular VPN services PureVPN, NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Cyberghost or Surfshark are recommended.
1. Unlimited streaming and live TV worldwide
For licensing reasons, you cannot receive US Netflix or other streaming services in every country while on holiday. Unless you use a VPN, then it works. This means you can bypass all country restrictions and stream your favorite series from anywhere.
In certain circumstances, you can even create an account on HBO Max or Hulu - platforms that you would be unable to access without a VPN. Another advantage is that you can watch newly released movies right when they start.
Similar to Netflix and Co., live TV streaming services are also affected by geo blocking. However, with a VPN you may get more content at no additional cost.
2. Access to censored content
In countries with internet censorship such as Russia a VPN is absolutely worth it. To unlock censored content, all you have to do is move your virtual location and pretend that you are in another country. However, whether and how well this works depends heavily on the respective VPN provider. Some provider sites are also subject to censorship and cannot be accessed in certain countries.
3. Protection for downloads (torrents)
You should be particularly careful when it comes to file sharing/torrenting. Never download torrents without a VPN, otherwise your activity can be easily tracked. A VPN encrypts your internet connection and routes torrent traffic through a server so you remain undetected.
4. Discounts when shopping
A widely underestimated area of application for VPNs is online shopping. The background is this: Many online shops determine their prices based on the operating system, the IP address and a few other factors.
5. Data protection, data protection, data protection
When you browse the Internet normally, you leave behind more data and information than you may realize. Every website visit and every search entry in Google etc. reveals potential information about your interests, desires and much more. If you value protecting your data, a VPN is the easiest choice. It protects your data traffic on your home computer as well as on public networks.
Attention: Never use an open network without a VPN if you want to query sensitive data or carry out banking transactions. If you surf unsecured on open WLANs, there is always the risk that your data will be read.
